Leigh Day represents hundreds of thousands of UK vehicle owners on a no-win no-fee basis against many of the leading vehicle manufacturers. This follows allegations that manufacturers fitted 'defeat' devices to their diesel vehicles to cheat the EU and UK emissions laws. Leigh Day is acting on behalf of these owners, and is claiming compensation worth thousands of pounds per vehicle.

We believe this legal claim matters to everyone. These vehicles were often advertised as being more environmentally friendly with lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Increased levels of NOx have been linked to global warming and as many as 64,000 early deaths a year.

Leigh Day were the joint-lead lawyers in the first diesel emissions group litigation brought against the Volkswagen Group on behalf of over 90,000 vehicle owners. In May 2022, an out-of-court settlement was reached in that litigation which resulted in a payment of £193 million being made to the claimants. Leigh Day is now bringing a second group claim against the Volkswagen Group, as well as similar group claims against Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Porsche, Jaguar Land Rover, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Nissan and Volvo.
