Delays in gender affirming surgery - Harry's story

"Waiting for the repair is uncomfortable and it makes me feel insecure and incomplete"

Posted on 19 June 2024

Harry’s story:

“It has impacted on my mental health. The whole idea behind transitioning and the lengthy journey is to make yourself feel like you belong, and you fit into society, and you don’t want to jump off a bridge because you feel lousy when you look in the mirror. It’s made me feel depressed and demoralised because again there’s another lengthy wait and I’ve been at this now for over 10 years. It’s a long time to be going through something.

I go through a lot of lows and I think is it all worth it? I am on medication for depression.”
