At Leigh Day, Nadir is predominantly working in cases concerning vulnerable communities in Latin America countries.

  • Catarina Oliveira Da Silva and others v Brazil Iron Limited and another. A claim on behalf of 103 plaintiffs, residents of two quilombola communities, Bocaina and Mocó, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, for damages caused by the operation of the Fazenda Mocó mine, which is operated by the defendants' Brazilian subsidiary, Brazil Iron Mineração Limitada (BIML).  The High Court dismissed the defendants' forum non conveniens challenge and ruled that it had jurisdiction to hear the communities' claim for damages against the two English defendant companies.
  • Andre Bravo and others v Amerisur Resources Ltd. A claim on behalf of members of remote communities living in southern Colombia in relation oil pollution, which was settled on a confidential basis without admission of liability

Further experience

Prior to joining Leigh Day, Nadir worked on contentious and non-contentious public international law and human rights disputes at prominent London law firms. She also worked as an intern to Judge Pangalangan at the Trial Chambers of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and as a legal fellow at the Appeals Chamber of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) in the Hague.
