Charlotte specialises in consumer law and product liability claims mainly brought as group claims/ multi-party actions particular expertise in consumer law and clinical trials.

Legal Expertise

Charlotte has been at Leigh Day for over 6 years having first joined the firm as a paralegal in the consumer law department.

Charlotte was admitted to the roll in December 2023.

She specialises in group litigation and product liability claims having acted for a number of individuals who were seriously injured while participating in clinical trials and pursued damages against the trial sponsors.

Charlotte is currently instructed in relation to the following matters:

  • A group claim on behalf of NHS patients who received blood transfusions contaminated with the Hepatitis C virus in a group action against the Secretary of State for Health. Most recently the government have confirmed that a compensation scheme will be enacted to compensate those who have been infected and affected by contaminated blood. Charlotte will be assisting clients to access the compensation scheme alongside, Partner Gene Matthews.
  • Individual claims against pharmaceutical companies on behalf of volunteers and patients who were injured having participated in clinical drug trials;
  • A group claim on behalf of tens of thousands of claimants seeking compensation from car manufacturers Nissan and Renault for allegedly fitting emissions ‘defeat devices’ on some of their diesel vehicles in order to artificially reduce emissions to pass regulatory tests. It is alleged that software used in vehicles is unlawful;
  • A group claim against easyJet on behalf of clients who were affected by the unauthorised disclosure of their personal information as a result of data breaches;

 

Previous Claims

Charlotte was part of the team that represented a large group of leaseholders affected by the presence of aluminium composite panels (ACM) in the wake of the Grenfell Tower cladding scandal [Naylor and others -v- Roamquest Ltd and another].

Charlotte also acted for a family who suffered respiratory and psychiatric injuries as a result of a faulty ventilation system being installed in their newbuild home.

Charlotte was part of the team acting for individuals in the metal on metal hip litigation.

Charlotte is a committee member of the firm’s Disability Committee.
