Legal expertise
In particular Andrew has developed expertise and knowledge of claims arising in the Southwest of England. He has recovered substantial sums of compensation for hundreds of people who have been exposed to asbestos and who have developed mesothelioma, asbestosis, asbestos-related lung cancer or pleural thickening. This has included numerous successful claims for workers at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth, and also many other professions including plumbers, carpenters, electricians, pipe-fitters, scaffolders, teachers, builders, hospital workers, shop-fitters, shop workers and Merchant Navy seamen.
Andrew has also successfully pursued many claims on behalf of people who have been exposed to asbestos on a secondary basis. This included a widely reported claim involving a wife in Plymouth who contracted asbestosis through the washing of her family’s overalls over a 25-year period, believed to be the first successful claim of its kind.
Andrew has led many campaigns in the Southwest to highlight the dangers of asbestos. This has included a prolonged effort to show the tragic legacy that asbestos has left in the Plymouth area, and a bid to highlight the injustice suffered by service personnel when seeking asbestos compensation.
He has also sought to raise awareness of the strong link between asbestos dust and lung cancer, and a campaign to highlight the increasing number of women diagnosed with mesothelioma.
He has had many articles published in national journals relating to asbestos disease, and has previously provided nationwide asbestos masterclass seminars to other lawyers. He has often appeared on TV, radio and newspapers to comment on asbestos news. He also gives regular presentations to respiratory doctors and nurses.
Andrew has supported various asbestos charities and support groups for many years and has regularly attended local meetings to support patients, carers, family members and lung cancer nurses.
Outside of work Andrew enjoys road cycling, travelling and dining out.
